I really disliked this CD. I hated listening to it and I had to listen to the whole thing for this review. The only track that I dug was the very ending of Track 14, "Soul Bleed."
In order to like this CD, you have to have lots of anger in you. They scream into the mic in growling voices that eat at your spine and preach nothing but hatred and fury.
They say things such as "Hatred is my fuel", "Knives in my spine", and "Fuck this, all of this." Great. Nice vivid pictures there.
I'm not saying that music needs to be about peaches and flowers and be all nice. If you've got aggression, music is a great way to let it go. But when that's a group's gimmick, I think that's cheap. They should be more creative and not look for inspiration from their dark sides.
Damageplan includes Dimebag Darrel and Vinnie Paul of Pantera, guitar and drums. The brothers were born in Texas. Pat Lachman is on vocals and Bob Zilla on bass. The brothers branched off of Pantera so as to attempt new music.
Wrong. They attempted no new music. They stuck to their ass-kicking and ferocious attitudes.
Overall, this CD is good to listen to if you want to smash someone's face in. Or engage in a huge mosh pit. Or it's good to sit around and sulk to and be pissed at the world.
I would not recommend this CD unless you are a heavy metal fan. If I pretended to be one, I could see how I might like this CD because there were parts where I thought that the guitar was really tight, but overall: definitely not.
