Dozens of ASU students turned out Tuesday to catch what promoters say was a healthy glance at tofu.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals held a demonstration at University Drive and College Avenue in front of the All Saints Catholic Newman Center.
Danish model Kira Eggers, who has appeared on the pages of Penthouse and Playboy, and Kayla Rae Worden, a transsexual PETA staff member, took their positions at noon in a children's pool filled with tofu and prepared for a wrestling bout.
"We're here to let them know the truth and the truth is that if you are eating meat, you are supporting gratuitous cruelty to animals, you're wreaking havoc on our environment and you're doing your health a great disservice," said Ravi Chand, a PETA campaign coordinator.
In addition to wrestling, spectators were given a chance to try a tofu sample.

Paul Terrigno, an accounting junior, tried tofu for the first time. For him, the small sample and the free show were too much to stomach.
"It really doesn't taste like much," he said. "I think its ridiculous that they're wrestling in it and we're eating it."
Some spectators were happy just to catch a small view of the event.
"I think it's funny, I think it's hilarious," said education senior Riccardo Stewart, an ASU football captain.
Stewart, who was on his way back on to campus after getting some food on College Avenue, was shocked to hear that Worden underwent a sex change in 1984.
"That's even more funny now that I think about it because there are probably guys drooling over there and I'm proud to say that I just walked by and glanced," he said.
Worden, a vegan, said "Soy products, such as tofu like we're jumping in today, are linked to good health, while meat and dairy are linked to heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, obesity and impotence ... that's something a lot of men would be concerned about."
