In one of the largest single-topic donations ever, ASU's Hayden Library has received a 10,000-volume collection from Jewish scholar Edward Zipperstein.
Zipperstein, a Los Angeles certified public accountant, and his wife Mae, spent over 40 years assembling the collection..
The texts are a diverse compilation on Judaism and the Jewish people and will be on special display until Aug. 31, when they will move into Hayden's permanent stacks, said Judith Smith, ASU spokeswoman.
Zipperstein's son Steven, a professor at Stanford University, chose Hayden because of ASU's growing Jewish studies program.
The Zipperstein collection includes sermons, Hebrew instruction textbooks, Jewish philosophy, Christian history, history of Zionism and Holy Land and Israel travel guides.
According to Smith, the texts would fill a bookcase nearly 1,000 feet long, and 85 percent of the works are out of print, making it a rare and sought-after collection.
