Letters: Parking woes reveal motive

It is apparent...as to where the minds of Arizona State University are focused. It was stated in The State Press that Lot 59 would be sectioned off to the general public to reserve space for the season ticket holders. I was under the impression that the barricades would not go up until around 3 p.m.; however, to my dismay and to the anguish of the tuition-paying and decal-purchasing student population, the lot was already being prepared prematurely for the almighty alumni and season ticket holders. It is my opinion -- which may be the same of many of the students at ASU -- that the student body is becoming more and more expendable. If the administrators of ASU desire more school spirit and a better college environment, then their eyes, minds and hearts need to be attentive to the people that are paying their bills.

Photo spread ridiculed

The GOP convention slideshow available at [the] Web Devil is pathetic to say the least. Not only is the photography mediocre, but the slideshow itself provides no real understanding of the events taking place. I personally feel like a panty shot of some F eminazi that says "Expose Bush" really gets down to the issues of this important election. C'mon folks! ASU students deserve better than that! Photographs of political leaders, protest crowd shots and crowd shots of those in the arena would have better served the purpose of showing the events that took place.

The cliche: "Pictures are like a thousand words." Well, today a thousand words or even five thousand [do] not seem adequate in accurately describing the RNC convention. Did the president of the United States speak last night? Because I was pretty sure he did and at length. But apparently there was nothing newsworthy about that. What's newsworthy is what happened outside the RNC as four of the five pictures reflect. But that also is not the case; it was widely reported last night that the content and the depth of the RNC convention inside triumphed over the Bush bashers outside. But I am not naive--The State Press will do its utmost this season in promoting their candidate--doing their best to alienate nearly half of the other student body. The one picture "Expose Bush" might be one of the most inappropriate pictures presented in a paper in a very long time. Decency and a sense of integrity have long gone out from media corroders and media minds...

And hopefully one day The State Press will [return to] their journalistic integrity, which provides a free and open press to all who seek and need a voice -- not just those who are discriminately deemed worthy.
