Palo Verde East gets new student hub

On the north side of campus, a new addition to Palo Verde East called The Hub opened this semester.

The section includes a Starbuck's, UPS Store and a satellite of the ASU Bookstore, according to Mistalene Calleroz, associate director of Residential Life.

The area was designed to provide students with a place to study.

The businesses surround a communal seating area, providing a place for customers to socialize.

The UPS Store was built as part of ASU Residential Life's outsourcing of residence hall mail to UPS.

The satellite bookstore sells ASU logo merchandise and souvenirs, but no books.

Construction crews can still be observed finishing some of the interior work, but much of the new section is finished.

Undeclared freshman Ben Schwirck said he likes the new section but didn't know about it until he went to the UPS Store to check his mail.

"I didn't really know it was there," he said. "I went to my mailbox."
