After showing that she is not only one of the top freshman golfers, but also one of the best golfers in the NCAA this year, ASU freshman Louise Stahle is now showing the world what she can do.
Stahle, who has three runner-up finishes in three tournaments for the Sun Devils this season, is currently in ninth place at the Women's World Amateur Champion-ships. The event is being played at the Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
Stahle, who is representing her home country of Sweden, helped her team move up to second place in the team competition after firing a 71 (-1) during Thursday's second round.
Thursday's round was a big improvement for Stahle, who was tied for 42nd after firing a 75 (+3) during the championship's opening round Wednesday.
"Louise has been the best amateur player in Europe for the past two years," head coach Melissa Luellen said. "She's a talented young lady."
Stahle is no stranger to amateur championships, as she won last summer's British Amateur, firing under par in two of the three rounds. Stahle has also competed in professional events and finished under par in each of those tournaments.
Swedish teammate and Oklahoma State star Karin Sjodin leads the tournament with a two- round total of 139 (-5), seven shots ahead of Stahle 146 (+2).
With two rounds remaining, Stahle and her Swedish teammates will need to make up ground, as they trail team leader Canada by three strokes. The United States is currently in third place, just one shot back of Sweden.
The championships will continue today, with the fourth and final round on Saturday.
