ASU sophomore forward Serge Angounou looks for an opening Thursday against Washington State freshman center Robbie Cowgill at Wells Fargo Arena.

Perfection and basketball often don't go together.

Serge Angounou defied the odds Thursday by not missing a shot against Washington State.

The sophomore forward went 7 for 7 from the field and 4 for 4 from the free-throw line, leading the Sun Devils with 18 points.

"He just continues to get better and better with every game," ASU junior forward Ike Diogu said. "We knew that he was this type of player, and he's just going out and playing his game."

Angounou's night included more than perfection. He also had 10 rebounds in 34 minutes.

In the last five games, Angounou has made 31 of 47 shots from the field and 14 of 16 free throws to average 15.4 points.

ASU coach Rob Evans said he knew Angounou still had a lot to offer.

"Serge can play better," Evans said. "He is just starting to feel good and just starting to play well. I tried to tell you two years ago what he was like, and no one believed me."

Foul city

Diogu had 15 points and 13 rebounds, but was plagued by foul trouble. He picked up his third foul with 15:11 remaining and his fourth with 6:13 left in the game.

Diogu said he couldn't let the referees change his style of play.

"I just wanted to stay aggressive," Diogu said. "I don't let fouls dictate the way I play."

Diogu fouled out with 33 seconds left while attempting to block a shot.

"It was all ball," Diogu said.

Jump shots

ASU outrebounded Washington State 37-23. It was the first time the Sun Devils had more rebounds than an opponent since their Pac-10 opener against UA.

Washington State shot 9 for 21 from the free-throw line.

ASU made 18 of 22 free throws.

Washington State managed just four points from its bench.
