Devil Dish: Lady Devils getting no respect

All the hoopla surrounding the ASU men's basketball team and its chances of getting into the NCAA Tournament has again overshadowed the other hoops team on campus.

Then again, it always does.

Rodney Dangerfield would have said the ASU women's basketball team gets no respect, and he would have been dead on.

The men's team is averaging 5,000 more fans per game than the women this season, which has been the norm.

Why is that?

I understand that men's basketball is more readily accepted throughout the United States, but before we assume that the men bring more to the table, get out and catch a game.

This year's women's team has a legitimate shot of going to the Big Dance, an 9-1 home record and a huge meeting with UCLA Saturday.

Believe it or not, ASU has a slim chance of getting two basketball teams into the NCAA Tournament this year.
