James Willette, 44, of Tempe, is the manager of the new Goodwill store located on Rural and Guadalupe roads.

The first 100 people in line for a new Tempe Goodwill store will have a chance to win a shopping spree.

The new store will open at Guadalupe and Rural roads Thursday at 9 a.m.

The Goodwill of Central Arizona shopping spree will be on Friday. Customers who return to the store the next day will receive a 50 percent discount coupon for all merchandise.

The winners of the shopping spree drawing will have four minutes to fill a cart and tag furniture before crossing the finish line.

"It's a good place to shop on a limited budget," said Tim O'Neal, vice president of retail operations for Goodwill of Central Arizona.

The grand opening will also include a balloon drop -- where balloons full of coupons will drop from the ceiling -- a raffle and other prizes.

"In the past, we have had turnout of upwards of 1,600 people," O'Neal said.

This will be the 29th store in the Valley and the third store in Tempe.

Anthropology junior Meagan Rubel said she doesn't think Goodwill is the type of place where ASU students shop.

"I don't think it really fits the demographic," she said. "I'm sure they will have a lot of good furniture. It can't be a bad thing."
