Cronkite school wins broadcast awards


For the second consecutive year, the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication won the Hearst Journalism Awards intercollegiate broadcast news competition.

"We could not be more proud of our students and their instructors," said Steve Doig, interim director of the Cronkite school.

Michiko Howlett, William Pitts, Carina Sonn and Adriana Alvarado helped ASU score 231 total points and earn the top ranking. Brigham Young University took second place with 182 points and the University of Nebraska, University of North Carolina and Penn State University followed.

Howlett took first place in radio news reporting with Pitts taking second in the same category. Sonn and Alvarado also had top-10 finishes in TV feature reporting and TV news reporting.
