A registered sex offender was arrested at Hayden Library on Tuesday after he allegedly fondled himself in a study area.
A 19-year-old female ASU student reported Michael D. Valentine, 28, was fondling himself through his clothing while seated in a study area on the underground entry level of the library, said ASU spokesman Manny Romero.
Valentine is not affiliated with the University.
The incident was reported to the ASU Department of Public Safety at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, and Valentine was arrested shortly afterward.
He was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on charges of public sexual indecency.
The victim reportedly felt Valentine's actions were directed at her. He reportedly made eye contact with the victim while fondling himself.
Valentine reportedly did not speak to the woman, Romero said, and there was "no physical contact between Valentine and the victim."
Valentine, a Mesa resident, is listed as a Level 2 sex offender, denoting an intermediate risk of committing another crime.
He was convicted of aggravated indecent liberties in Kansas, according to Arizona's sex offender database.
