There is a scene in "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" where Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt take off two mannequin's outfits and fit perfectly into them. Need I say more? They look perfect and are perfect for one another. Of course, Jennifer Aniston could probably fit into a mannequin's outfit, but it looks so good on Jolie.
This movie will make you ask yourself, "Why was I keeping up with the Joneses all of this time when I could have been keeping up with the Smiths?"
If you haven't seen a movie trailer from "Mr. and Mrs. Smith's" yearlong ad campaign, the film begins in a marriage counselor's office with John (Pitt) and Jane (Jolie) Smith. After about five or six years of marriage, their bond is like a Cold War.
The two are trying to lead normal lives in front of one another, but not admitting to themselves or each other that their real passion comes from killing. After the Smiths finish their individual assignments, their next assignment involves taking out the same bad guy. Coincidentally, they find out each other's secret, and since they work for different "agencies," they decide that they have to kill each other. This is where the marriage gets a little spicy.
Even though Pitt is a good-looking guy, Jolie is the one who shines in the spotlight. If she's not wearing only a bra or a dominatrix outfit, she has a slit on the side of her dress that's as high as Mount Everest. On the other hand, Pitt is very cool. He acts with the same swagger he had in "Ocean's Eleven" and its sequel.
The action sequences definitely go outside the box. Even though the Smiths drive a new Cadillac and Mercedes, when the car-chase sequence begins, they're stuck driving a soccer-mom mini van.
The Smiths do wear their shirts and shoes and continue to kill each other. The best part is that "Express Yourself" by Charles Wright and The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band plays in the background.
When John and Jane fight each other, it feels like "Fight Club" all over again. The only difference is there are many large weapons used.
Finally, Adam Brody and Vince Vaughn provide comic relief, which only enhances the whole experience. All in all, this movie is worth a shot. For those of you who do not have any ideas for a Father's Day present, this is the perfect gift for Dad.
"Mr. and Mrs. Smith" will be in theaters Friday. I give it 4 out of 5 roses.
