Letters to the editor: Defending Danica, Attacking Alamoodi

Danica Patrick

I just want to make a comment on some of the latest articles I've read about Danica Patrick and writers trying to compare her and her sport to other females in other sports like tennis or golf. For one, all of Danica Patrick's competitors are male. Also in Danica's sport the slightest mistake can take her life or cripple her for life.

Hanson's Column Misguided

After reading Macy Hanson's column last week, I feel the need to defend Dave Werner and Aimee Gipper. It seems to me that fairness was the only motive behind their actions, and I am one of those so-called "confidantes" of which Hanson speaks.

What Dave and Aimee were seeking was justice. It is absolutely true that the Alamoodi campaign used a hookah as a campaign tool, and when I stopped by, I certainly wasn't asked for identification. Moreover, something like tobacco should not be used in relation to a university activity.

I do agree with you that Alamoodi and Widmer deserve a chance.  However, Alamoodi must remember that he came in with barely a majority, and certainly no mandate.  Based on that, I would advise Alamoodi to stop using such phrases as "the people's will" when he discusses his election, because that will lead him down a dangerous path towards the entitlement and elitism which he so vociferously despises. Being a good president will require him to learn the machinations of ASU that he has not seemed to gain in his seven-plus years here.
