Conspiracy or hockey at it's finest: you be the judge.
Earlier this month, hockey fans were privileged to learn that the "Great One," Wayne Gretzky, had agreed to a multi-year contract to serve as head coach of the Phoenix Coyotes.
Unfortunately, the NHL once again had to chase away the last of its fan base by announcing the reinstatement of Vancouver Canuck Todd "I almost killed a man" Bertuzzi, within hours of Gretzky's welcoming.
The man in charge of the horrible timing: NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.
Instead of allowing the fan-deprived hockey league to enjoy the news that a "prodigy" will continue his legacy, helping re-establish a good reputation among the NHL and the people, Bettman -- who has helped the NHL lose a total of $225 million since it was placed under his belt -- once again had to spoil the party.
What's even more ironic? Coach Gretzky and his 'Yotes will open their season on Oct. 5 against the Vancouver Canucks. What better way is there to say "welcome back" than with a blow to the back of the head.
Well Mr. Commissioner, now is your time to lay low. You've got the strict salary cap that you've been asking for, so back off. It's time to let the players play hockey, and more importantly, it's time for Gretzky to prove his greatness.
