Harry Potter movie director hit the mark
[Mike] Newell has it right ("'Goblet of Fire' not really the story it's based on," Nov. 16)! His hybrid of adventure, fantasy and teenage angst has struck the right notes. This Potter is not as dark as the previous ones, and manages to capture the tribulations of growing up as a wizard while still being a teen.
All of this is done in the midst of a fantastical tri-wizard competition. The competition is a feast for the eyes, the rapid dialogue between the boys demonstrating their bond. And Hermione, what [would] we do without her pragmatism?
This is full of themes of friendship, honor, compassion and right from wrong. Good stuff. Our children need to hear it. Take them to Harry Potter and enjoy.

J.D. Hayworth voted to cut your financial aid
Last week the United States Congress voted to cut the federal student-loan program by $14.3 billion. If passed, this could mean the average student that borrows money would have to pay an extra $5,800 on their loans! Arizona Rep. J.D. Hayworth, the representative of the area in and around Arizona State University, voted for this proposal.
For students that called Hayworth's office as part of the USG Government Relations campaign in the past two weeks, I would like to personally thank you. Your efforts, however, cannot stop there if we expect to prevent this legislation from making a college education more expensive for students. To those who missed out from having their voices heard before, now is your chance! I strongly urge all students and concerned Arizonans to contact Congressman J.D. Hayworth at http://hayworth.house.gov/.
