Police Beat: Longboards and handguns

ASU police reported the following incident Wednesday:

A 19-year-old Mesa man was arrested in Parking Structure 7 late Tuesday night and charged with trespassing. A private security officer patrolling the structure reportedly saw the man and five other people skateboarding. The security officer allegedly told the suspect he and the others were not allowed to skateboard in the parking structure.

"We're not skateboarding, we're longboarding," the suspect reportedly said.

The suspect later told an ASU police officer who responded to the scene that "he thought the fact that he was on a longboard was a 'loophole.'"

The suspect was reportedly unable to explain what made a longboard different from a skateboard and said he did not pass on the security officer's warning to the rest of the group.

The other five people were issued verbal warnings.

Tempe police reported the following incidents Wednesday:

A 21-year-old Tucson man was arrested early Wednesday morning on the 1500 block of West Juanita Avenue in Mesa. He was charged with unlawful discharge, disorderly conduct with a weapon and marijuana possession.

The man allegedly fired two rounds from a handgun into the air during a confrontation at the Devil House, 829 S. Rural Road.

"[The man] admitted to firing the handgun because he said the persons he and his friends got into the argument with were following him in his vehicle," police reported.

Police allegedly found the handgun and a bag with a green, leafy substance thought to be marijuana in the vehicle.

A 21-year-old Nogales man in the vehicle reportedly told police he was involved in the altercation. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

A 37-year-old transient woman was arrested Tuesday evening on the 1000 block of East Apache Boulevard and charged with unlawful use of a means of transportation.

The woman was reportedly seen driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

"[She] had to start the vehicle with a pair of scissors but denied knowing that the vehicle was stolen," police reported.
