M Golf: ASU finishes sixth in Puerto Rico


The ASU men's golf teampicked up its third top-10 finish in as many spring tournaments on Tuesday.

The Sun Devils shot a 6-over 870 to place sixth at the Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Georgia took both the individual and team titles. The Bulldogs as a team carded a 21-under 843, while Chris Kirk shot an 11-under 205 to win the individual championship.

Oklahoma State led the competition going into the final round, but finished in third. Florida ended the event in second, while Alabama and East Tennessee State rounded out the top five.

Defending champion Alejandro Canizares was ASU's best performer, carding a 4-under 212 to place fifth at the event. Canizares shot two under par in the final round.

ASU junior Niklas Lemke rebounded from a rough start to the tournament, shooting six under par in the final round to finish in 23rd place at 1-over 217.

Senior Lenny Park was tied for the lead after one round of play, but combined to shoot eight over in the final two rounds to finish in 38th at 4-over 220.

Freshmen Benjamin Alvarado Holley and Ryan Kelley rounded out ASU's lineup. Holley carded a 5-over 221, good for 44th place, while Kelley finished with a 27-over 243.
