ASU water polo sophomores Rowie Webster and Addison Doud are set to compete for their respective junior national teams at the Pythia Cup this Friday through Sunday in Athens, Greece.

Webster, from Melbourne, Australia, captains the Australian Junior National Team while Doud, from Laguna Beach, Calif., will compete with the Americans.

In addition to the United States and Australia, the Pythia Cup will also feature junior national water polo teams from Greece and Germany.

Webster has already made a splash with the Aussies, scoring four goals in two games earlier this month in Zeist, the Netherlands.

Australia tied their first match 9-9 but came back to win 11-4 in their second match as Webster scored three goals.

Doud has also gotten her feet wet this month, competing with the U.S. National Women's "B" Team at the FINA World League preliminary and semifinal rounds in Quebec City, Canada. She scored two goals in the preliminary round.

Webster and Doud led the ASU water polo team to a 15-13 record last season. They both led the Sun Devils in total points, tying with 119 each.

Webster accumulated 63 goals, 19 assists, 33 kick outs and four penalties while Doud recorded 39 goals, nine assists, 63 kick outs and eight penalties.

Track and Field

ASU track and field's Victoria Jackson was named the 2006 USTFCCCA (United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association) Division I Female Scholar Athlete of the Year for the outdoor season last Wednesday.

Jackson, now a graduate student, had her final and finest season at ASU in 2006, taking first place in the 5,000-meter run at the Pac-10 Championships and winning a national title in the 10,000-meter run at the NCAA meet.

Jackson maintained a 3.9 GPA in the last academic year and is currently pursuing a Ph D in American Indian History.

She has spent the last two years competing at ASU after transferring from the University of North Carolina in 2004.

More Track and Field

Junior Aaron Aguayo of the ASU track and field team took first place earlier this month in the men's 5,000-meter run at the 2006 NACAC (North American-Central American-Caribbean) Under-23 Track & Field Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Aguayo won the event in a time of 14:54.55, less than one second ahead of second place.

Aguayo, along with several other ASU and ASU alumni athletes, competed for the United States at the international event.

On the women's side, sophomore Jacquelyn Johnson took fourth place in the women's heptathlon.

Softball

ASU softball coach Clint Myers and his staff were announced the Pacific Region Coaching Staff of the Year by the NFCA earlier this month.

Myers, who is complimented by assistant coaches Robert Wagner and Kirsten Voak, completed his first season with the team this summer, leading ASU all the way to the Women's College World Series and a 53-15 overall mark. The team improved drastically from their 30-26 record in 2005.

ASU's staff was chosen over that of all of the powerhouse Pac-10 teams, including Myers' longtime friend Mike Candrea, head coach of the current national champion Arizona Wildcats.
