Go Greek without the hazing

ASU is well known for its Greek life when it comes to fraternities and sororities, but for real Greek culture, students should head over to the 46th annual Greater Phoenix Greek Festival on Friday, Oct. 13.

Through Sunday, you can "Get a little piece of Greece here in Phoenix," said Chris Petroulakis, festival co-chairman.

Activities range from dancing and shopping to eating real Greek foods. Those of age can also get a taste of Mediterranean alcohol, which means lots of ouzo and lots of opa.

"It is a very unorthodox way to spend a weekend," said Megan Thomas, a journalism freshman.

Thomas has attended the festival before and plans to do so again.

A live Greek band will be playing all weekend.

"[The dancing] takes practice, but eventually you get the hang of it," Thomas said.

The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral is hosting this festival, and in between open dancing, students from the church perform dances they have prepared.

Proceeds from the festival go to the Phoenix Children's Hospital.

The event is located at the James A. Community Center. Tickets are $2 at the door.
