Junior Juan Carlos Rebaza had a perfect home debut for the men's tennis team, as he won both the singles and doubles titles at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational this weekend.
Rebaza, one of the team's newcomers this season after transferring from Tennessee Tech, defeated sophomore teammate Wes Miller 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the singles final Sunday.
He then combined with sophomore T.J. Bellama later in the day to beat teammates Miller and freshman Matt Brooklyn 9-8 in the doubles final.
Overall, the Sun Devils dominated their home tournament against players from Arkansas, Auburn, UC-Irvine and Scottsdale Community College, as they had all four singles semifinalists and three of the four doubles team semifinalists.
In the singles main draw semifinals, Rebaza defeated senior Nick Hegarty 6-4, 6-2 and Miller beat his doubles partner Brooklyn 7-6, 2-6, 6-3 to advance to the finals.
On the doubles side, Rebaza and Bellama beat fellow Sun Devils Hegarty and junior Ryan Waits 8-6 in one semifinal. Miller and Brooklyn topped Arkansas' Jorge Villanueva and Colin Mascall 8-3 in the other.
The tournament wrapped up the fall season for ASU, as no Sun Devils qualified for this week's ITA National Indoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio.
The Sun Devils will next play at the San Diego State Invitational Jan. 12-14. They will return home on Jan. 26 to face Scottsdale Community College and NAU.
