Award-winning cartoonist, writer on campus throughout week

Laughter echoed throughout Gammage Auditorium Tuesday as Jules Feiffer charmed the audience during ASU's 2006 Flinn Foundation Centennial Lecture.

The multitalented and Pulitzer Prize-winning Feiffer is an author, illustrator and playwright, and has been an influence to many including Woody Allen and Gary Trudeau.

During his lecture, "Feiffer on Feiffer: My Life and Funny Times," he was also able to inspire his audience with his candor and wit.

"He is very carefree," said accounting senior Casper Kim.

Feiffer described the circumstances under which he will undertake a project.

"I have to be having a wonderful time, and I have to be on the trail of something worth trailing," he said.

It looks like many of Feiffer's endeavors have been worth the effort. His comic strip, "Feiffer," was in syndication for 42 years.

He has also created children's books, starting with "The Man in the Ceiling," which Disney Theatrical Productions is now developing into a musical.

Feiffer's accomplishments are a result of professionalism and passion.

"You are always doing your best even if it doesn't turn out that way," he said.

Kim was impressed by Feiffer's presentation of clips from his work, and remembered his humor after the show.

"There's the quote I liked from him, 'You can deliver or die, and you choose to deliver,'" Kim said.

Feiffer has delivered and has done so with great success.

For those who missed the lecture, he will be sharing more of his work and wit on campus until Dec. 2.
