Influx of sex-related incidents in past 2 weeks

In the past two weeks three sex-related incidents were reported on ASU's campuses - a sexual assault in Hayden Hall, the viewing of child pornography at the West campus and a case of sexual abuse.

On Nov. 1, between the hours of 1 and 2 a.m., an 18-year-old female ASU student was sexually assaulted by her ex-boyfriend in Hayden Hall on the Tempe campus, police reported.

She filed a report with ASU police on Nov. 2, and the incident is under investigation, said Leah Hardesty, ASU spokeswoman.

In a separate incident, ASU police were called to the West campus on Oct. 25 because a registered sex offender on lifetime probation was watching child pornography on a computer at Fletcher Library, police reported.

Kenneth Bell, 54, who is not affiliated with ASU, was charged with nine counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, Hardesty said.

A witness saw Bell look at child pornography and alerted a librarian who then saw him looking at pictures of boys in their underwear, police reported.

ASU West's Technology Support and Development Department reportedly downloaded the computer files for a forensic examination, and nude pictures of boys ages 5 to 15 were allegedly found and presented to police.

Bell is in jail in Yuma for violating his probation, Hardesty said.

There are filters on library computers to prevent people from accessing certain Web sites, but he was able to find sites that do not have a filter, she said.

Lastly, on Oct. 23, a 20-year-old ASU employee filed a report with ASU police reportedly stating two of her supervisors sexually harassed and abused her for about a month.

She said one of the supervisors touched her butt, breasts and vagina; grabbed her waist; massaged her shoulders; and pulled her shirt away from her body and looked down it, police reported.

Another supervisor allegedly followed her into the women's restroom to look at her while she was undressed and reportedly made numerous inappropriate sexual remarks.

A 20-year-old female co-worker said she has never seen inappropriate touching, but a man said he would pay $300 to have sex with both of them, police reported.

It is unclear from the police report whether the man who offered money for sex is one of the supervisors.

One of the supervisors reportedly denied any inappropriate touching or conversations with any female employee.

He said he remembers touching the employee on the shoulder as he passed by her because he did not want her to turn into him, but insisted the touch was innocent, police reported.

Police allegedly spoke to several additional employees who said the sexual abuse report made by the employee was false.
