The Polytechnic campus celebrates its 10th birthday this year and will use the occasion to commemorate its founders.
One event, on Friday, will start with a groundbreaking ceremony and the second event, on Nov. 8, will be a luncheon for students.
Vinette Williams, director of public affairs, said the celebration will break ground on a new complex of buildings.
"Those are our new academic buildings and construction will be starting at the beginning of the new year," Williams said.
The member list for Friday's event is for, but not limited to, faculty, staff, the local community and state legislators. Students are also invited, Williams said.
The luncheon will be themed around the number 10 for the anniversary.
There will be a game at the luncheon where students find the 10th degree of something related to Polytechnic,;for example, the first 10 places to eat on campus, Williams said. Prizes will be given.
Faculty members of all the Polytechnic academic departments will also have a chance to explain hands-on displays of their research after Friday's groundbreaking.
Scott Danielson, administrator of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Technology, said the exhibition will be an opportunity to showcase the school's emphasis on applied sciences, which it relates to industry and the real world.
Danielson's department will showcase work done by students, including posters and a mini Baja car that students funded and built. The car was featured in CNC Machining magazine.
Fifty-five faculty members have worked at Polytechnic since 1996, the year of the campus' inception.
