With a million and one places to get a margarita around here, it might seem like a task to choose the proper spot. Though it's a trek from campus, San Felipe's Cantina in Scottsdale is the perfect mix of excellent tequila options and damn-tasty Mexican cuisine.
Entering San Felipe's, one is taken aback by the sheer selection of tequilas available - over 100 to try - and any can be added to the restaurant's famous margaritas and cocktails.
If your belly is aching for good chow, the menu is full of standard Mexican options, along with a "Gringo Grub" section full of American favorites like hamburgers and chicken wings. The El Gordito Burrito is a staple on the menu that takes two or three mouths to finish off; smother it with the house Colorado sauce for an added kick.
Happy hour is a must. All tequila drinks, Mexican beers and appetizers are half-off from 4 to 7 p.m. The house margarita, with a shot of brandy floating on top, is excellent. San Felipe's is a great spot to meet up with friends to catch the game and relax, or to celebrate Cinco de Mayo (Cinco de Drinko, in San Felipe's terms).
