When U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. stops at ASU today, she should receive a warm welcome.
Pelosi is expected to discuss a number of new policies, including the new House Bill designed to cut interest on need based Federal Stafford loans.
The bill will slash rates on the undergraduate subsidized loans in a staged process that spans five years.
The cut, which would begin in 2011, passed the House with flying colors, though its future in the Senate is uncertain.
Adding to the excitement is the fact that she is the first woman Speaker in the nation's history.
This will mark her first domestic speaking appearance since taking over as lead member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Pelosi will appear on campus at 2 p.m. at the Memorial Union's Arizona Ballroom. Appearing at her side will be Arizona Democrat congressman-Reps. Harry Mitchell, Raul Grijalva and Ed Pastor.
