Tired of trekking to the local liquor store? Try designing your own wine at Casavino Winery.
"You don't have to know anything about winemaking or wine," says Casavino owner Jim Rauch. "We tell you everything you need to know."
It only takes 20 minutes to mix a six-gallon batch, which yields 28 to 30 bottles of wine, Rauch says. Participants add water, yeast and other ingredients like oak chips to their choice of more than 100 kinds of grape juices, which come from vineyards from California to Argentina.
For those unsure which flavors to pick, the winery also has lists describing the taste of each wine and its comparable commercial counterpart.
The wine is ready in five to six weeks. During that time, Rauch works with customers to design their own bottle labels.
Customers come back to bottle and cork the finished product. Prices range from $247 to $369 for an entire batch. Price too steep? Rauch says as many as 20 people can split the cost of one order. So get your group of friends, teammates or Greek life brothers or sisters together for a personalized alcoholic treat.
Casavino also features free winemaking classes. For more information, visit casavinowinery.com.
