Hot Spot: Mixing up fashion on Mill Avenue

Mix and Match

824 S. Mill Ave.

Colorful braided belts spill out of an antique wooden box. On the same table, metal-studded purses accompany bracelets with dangling yarn cherries.

Unlike many of its neighbors on Mill Avenue, Mix & Match, a boutique that opened last month, doesn't carry any well-known name brand clothing.

Owner Grace Kim, 29, says she didn't want to bring in generic articles already found in stores on Mill Avenue and in the malls. Many of her store's clothes come from California, with a featured line called Sugar Lips. New items arrive every Tuesday.

Clothes range from basic tees and tank tops to shirts and dresses with detailed patterns and embellishments like lace. Shorts, capris and pants made of denim, linen and corduroy fabrics lie folded on shelves; silver necklaces with anchors hang from the wall; and a discount box of plastic bracelets and shell earrings sits atop the front counter.

A sale rack is nestled in the back corner, but prices throughout the store are reasonable. Dresses cost $20 to $50, T-shirts and basic tops are $6 to $10, and fancier tops are around $30.

Depending on the purchase, the store may provide customers with a 15 percent-off coupon.
