Track qualifies 22 more


The ASU track and field team completed another meet filled with wins, regional qualifying marks and personal records, when it participated in the Clif Bar Invitational at Sun Angel Stadium last weekend.

Overall, the Sun Devils earned seven wins, 22 regional qualifiers, two meet records and 10 marks that were good enough for ASU's top 10 list.

Sophomore Sarah Stevens won two events, as she tossed 65.43m (214-08) in the hammer throw which also set the meet record. She also won the discus with a mark of 56.39m.

Senior Latosha Wallace was also part of two wins and two meet records.

She won the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.37, which set the meet record and placed her fourth on ASU's top 10 list.

She was also a member of the 4x400 relay team that won the event and set a meet record along with senior Bridgette Williams, sophomore Shauntel Elcock and junior Jacquelyn Johnson.

Rounding out the female winners was junior April Kubishta, who won the pole vault with a clearance of 4.00m.

Winners on the men's side included senior Domenik Peterson in the 200m (20.90) and junior Matt Turner in the high jump (2.10m)

In addition to the winners, many other Sun Devils also placed well and qualified for the regional meet.

Juniors Tai Battle and Jessica Pressley placed fourth and fifth in the hammer throw and qualified with tosses of 57.83m (189-09) and 57.34 (188-01), respectively.

Junior Kelvin Love, Jr. placed second in the 200m dash and qualified when he finished with a time of 20.92, just 0.02 seconds behind winner Peterson.

Other women qualifiers included Johnson in the 100m hurdles (13.50), Willams (54.15) and Elcock (54.28) in the 400m dash, sophomore D'Metra Macedon in the 800m (2:08.15), Battle in the discus (53.66m) and shot put (14.35m) and sophomore Lissa Regents in the javelin (45.59m).

Other men qualifiers included senior Aaron Aguayo (3:43.17), junior Kyle Alcorn (3:44.03) and sophomore Jack Mann (3:46.64) in the 1500m run, junior Marquis Profit in the 400m hurdles (51.91), freshman Ryan Whiting in the discus (54.00m), senior Andrew Smith (66.51m) and junior Brad Roth (66.51m) in the javelin and junior Tomas Navarro in the shot put (17.23m).

In addition to Wallace, women that earned spots on ASU's top 10 list included Macedon in the 800m (ninth), Stevens (third) and Battle (eighth) in the discus, Regets in the javelin (eighth) and junior Alana Waterford in the pole vault (fourth).

Men that earned spots on ASU's top 10 list included Aguayo (fifth) and Alcorn (ninth) in the 1500m and Roth in the javelin (fifth).

The team will travel to two different meets next weekend, as some athletes will compete in the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., and others will compete in the Arizona International in Tucson.
