Each day, more than 15,000 bicyclists descend on Tempe's main campus.
On Wednesday, they can feast on a free breakfast.
As a part of the ongoing Tempe Bike Week, continuing until April 22, Wednesday is "bike to work and school day."
Locations around town, including Bruegger's Bagels on Mill Avenue and 11th Street, will give free breakfast snacks to people riding to school or work Wednesday morning.
Bike Week aims to show why riding a bike is a good alternative to driving, said Tanya Chavez, community outreach marketing coordinator for the city of Tempe.
"I think it would be hard to find a street in Tempe where you wouldn't see a bicyclist," she added.
Mayor Hugh Hallman will ride from Whole Foods on Rural and Baseline roads to Brueggers Bagels at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Chavez said.
Anyone is welcome to join, she added.
For ASU students, riding a bike has advantages beyond not having to search for a parking space, said Judi Nelson, program manager for commuter options at Parking and Transit Services.
"It's the expense part," she said. "You're not paying for gas, you're not paying for your car and you're not paying for your parking space."
Other advantages include good exercise and helping to keep the air clean, Nelson added.
Biology alumna Allison Karow, caretaker of Bike Saviours, a local bike cooperative, threw a benefit party Friday to kick off Bike Week.
"The benefit on Friday was a smashing success," she said. "We raised a lot of money to help buy parts."
The nonprofit organization is devoted to getting low-cost used parts and repairs to people with bikes, Karow said.
"Also we have a bike library program for people who need to borrow a bike for a week," she added.
The cooperative currently operates from Karow's backyard, but they are looking for retail space, she said.
Tempe Bicycle, Dominic's Cycling and other local bike shops are offering discounts on tune-ups all week.
Yvonne Morrison, owner of Tempe Bicycle, said ASU students get a 10 percent discount year round as well.
"We have a buyback program," she said. "Students can use bikes for a couple years, and then we will buy them back."
