ASU police reported the following incidents:

• An 18-year-old female ASU student was arrested on the evening of July 4 at Best Hall on charges of being under 21-years-old with alcohol in the body.

Police reported the woman smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.

When asked if she consumed alcohol, she responded "no" and claimed to drink non-alcoholic "punch," police reported.

She agreed to take a breathalyzer test to measure her blood alcohol level and registered a .033, which reportedly disproved her earlier claim, police stated.

While the officer wrote the citation, she began noticeably swaying from side to side and continued to insist – for about 15 minutes – that she had not drank alcohol, police reported.

The officer reportedly offered to drive her to the hospital to take a blood test to prove there was no alcohol in her system, but she declined and signed the citation.

• A 33-year-old man was arrested on the morning of July 3 at Architecture North on charges of an outstanding warrant.

The man reportedly was sleeping near the northwest corner of the building and was woken up by officers.

A background check reportedly found the man had an outstanding warrant from the Gilbert Police.

Police turned him over to the Gilbert Police Department.

• A 49-year-old ASU employee reported criminal damage at the South Grounds building on the morning of July 2.

The man reported a metal mesh window screen was cut on three of its four sides.

The screen is affixed to a window of woman's bathroom, police reported.

Police reportedly did not find any fingerprints. Estimated damage is about $30.

Tempe police reported the following incidents:

• A 29-year-old Tempe man was arrested on the morning of July 4 on the 1900 block of E. Apache Blvd. on charges of unlawful discharge of a firearm and endangerment.

The man reportedly discharged a shotgun from his apartment building toward the direction of the Tempe Police Substation, at 1855 E. Apache Blvd.

He was transported and booked at the Tempe City Jail.

• A 29-year-old Tempe man was arrested on the morning of July 3 on charges of child abuse.

The man reportedly whipped his 8-year-old son with a leather belt on his back because of poor grades at school.

The child complained of back pains, and his back was red and swollen, police reported.

Because of the severity of the injury, the child reportedly was placed in Child Protective Services' custody.

The man said he did not know it was illegal to use a belt on his kids, police reported. He was booked at Tempe City Jail.

• A 21-year-old Tempe man was arrested on the morning of July 6 on the 1500 block of E. University Drive on charges of aggravated DUI.

He reportedly drove a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and had an ignition interlock restriction on his driver's license.
