Devil Dish

While watching the first two games of the Diamondbacks-Cubs series, one thing dawned on me.

Why the heck are there so many Cubs fans?

I understand a lot of Chicago transplants live in Arizona and therefore continue to support their team.

I will of course continue to support my hometown teams when I finally get out of Arizona.

But there seems to be a lot of Cub fans that have no connection to Chicago and just choose to root for the Cubs.

It makes sense to me when casual fans jump on the bandwagons of teams like the Yankees, Lakers and Cowboys.

Those are teams with long traditions of winning games and championships.

The Cubs don't exactly fit that model.

They may be "lovable," but they're also losers.

If given a choice, why root for losers?

I don't get it.

And the curse won't end in 2007. D-Backs in five.
