Devil Dish

I'm just going to come right out and say it.

I hate the Arizona Wildcats.

It's not just their school or the phrase "Bear Down" or the atrocious city of Tucson that drive me nuts.

It's their completely delusional fan base.

I got so much flack from my UA friends over Thanksgiving break about ASU's loss to USC that one would think it was the Wildcats, not the Sun Devils, that are 9-2 and still in the hunt for a Bowl Championship Series game.

Yes, a bowl berth. Do the folks in Tucson even know the meaning of that phrase?

The Wildcats' trend under Mike Stoops has been to go into the season with unrealistic expectations, that "this is their year," compile bad loss after bad loss and then somehow manage to beat a top-10 team at home in November.

It happened when the Wildcats beat No. 7 UCLA in 2005, No. 8 California in 2006 and a Dennis Dixon-less No. 2 Oregon earlier this season.

Those wins then cause a lot of trash talking from UA fans about how the Wildcats are going to stomp the Sun Devils.

The funny thing is, UA lost to ASU and did not advance to a bowl game in either 2005 or 2006.

The Sun Devils will keep the Wildcats out of a bowl game for the ninth straight season on Saturday, and then we can get ready for our own little fiesta on Jan. 2 in Glendale.
