Indie band Tokyo Police Club plans to release its first full-length album in April.

After almost three years of blog hype and Internet speculation, indie band Tokyo Police Club finally announced the completion of its first full-length record to be released in April.

Combining high-energy, volatile beats with quirky lyrics, underground music finds its zenith in Tokyo Police Club. Vocalist/bassist Dave Monks' simplistic, frank vocals strike a stark contrast to Greg Alsop's dynamic drumming. The band's sound rings a bit inexperienced, but there is no denying the latent talent hiding beneath.

Originating from the stereotypical basement jam session, Tokyo Police Club's four members formed their band after disbanding from a pervious group, according to the band's Web site. After attracting a following throughout the Toronto area, the band was asked to perform at Montreal's "Pop Montreal" festival. Since then, non-stop Canadian touring has spread the band's influence and iconic image.

Since Tokyo Police Club hit the blogosphere in 2005, the Ontario-based band slowly released tantalizing hits including the Internet sensation "Citizens of Tomorrow," according to its Web site. However, Tokyo Police Club slipped under the radar after a period of inactivity. Various music videos expanded an already large fan base and earned nomination for the Best Videos of '07 by Subterranean. However, eager fans found lack of new content extremely frustrating, prompting activity online by bloggers.

But on Jan. 23, Tokyo Police Club announced on its Web site the completion of "Elephant Shell," their new record, and a torrent of new tour dates. "Elephant Shell" has a total of twelve songs, an upgrade from its 2006 EP's seven songs.

Perhaps the most exciting development for local fans, the new tour includes a Phoenix show. Tokyo Police Club will play at the Clubhouse in Tempe on March 29. In addition to the old favorites, live shows include previews of the new CD—something no fan of the band should miss.
