The only missing element to an otherwise exciting opening to the MLB season is a former Sun Devil.

Why can't Barry Bonds get a job and increase his all-time home run record?

While the players association investigates the oft-used conspiracy theory that Bonds is being blackballed from the game he helped revive, the discussion of steroids is obtrusively absent from the scope of the game.

And I have to say, it's kind of nice.

Sure, the problem is far from being solved. Players are still injecting substances with three letter acronyms that can't be tested for.

But, it's also nice to just watch baseball again without being bombarded by images of well-dressed men in well-attended courtrooms.

Bonds' absence on the diamond helps the sport move forward, while the next subpoena, report, affidavit, or rumor to be explored will remind us that the cleanup remains unfinished.

Bonds' inability to find work is amusing. But hey, it's tough out there. After all, we could be in a recession.
