Vegas baby, Vegas.
I'm here now in the mecca of money, glamour and gambling, about to embark on my first post-21 experience.
So what better to talk about than the NBA Summer League?
People need to realize that these games don't really mean a thing. It pisses me off whenever I hear the talking heads on ESPN hate on Michael Beasley for going 1-for-13 from the field.
These games are so far off from the real thing that they can't be a true barometer of how good a player truly is.
Take Marco Belinelli for example. This dude is a Summer League god for my Golden State Warriors.
Last year he stepped off the plane and dropped 37 in his first contest. His legend grew by the minute. Publications were calling Belinelli the steal of the draft. Even his coach Don Nelson said "he had starter written all over him."
Then the regular season started, and Belinelli came back down to Earth. He probably played a combined 20 minutes during the entire season.
So please, take these games as they are — just an organized pickup game for wide-eyed rookies and players on the fringe of the league.
