All right, this Brett Favre situation is getting too awkward for me.

If he thinks he can still play in the NFL, I've got to agree with him. He knows his body and himself better than anyone. It's just going to be really weird seeing him in a non-Packer uniform.

I thought he should have retired a couple of seasons ago, but he kept on surprising me with his inspired play.

Then came the tearful, emotional goodbye. A few months went by and the Packers brass established that they were heading in a new direction.

No longer was the immortal No. 4 going to the king of Lambeau Field. An era was over.

Aaron Rodgers was groomed to be Favre's replacement, and after three years of waiting in the wings, the time was his.

Then a couple of months passed and Brett felt the void — the realization that for the rest of his life, he wouldn't play in a meaningful game of football.

The Favre-Packers divorce has held substantial weight in the sports world since the beginning of the month, but stuff really hit the fan on Friday.

Favre formally asked the Pack to set him free, with "no strings attached." The organization responded with 'Hey, you can come back but you'll be second string.'

Ouch.

Brett Favre, done like that.

This had to happen sometime, now it finally is.

I can't even imagine the mayhem and/or depression going on in Wisconsin right now. From what I understand, Favre is right up there with beer, brats and cheese curds. That's an exclusive list.

I feel for the fans who might see Favre play against their beloved Packers once or even twice this season. I couldn't even imagine the separation anxiety they must be feeling.

If the Packers do grant his unconditional release, Rodgers better throw at least five more touchdowns and five less interceptions than Favre or he may be eaten alive.

He's already taken some choice words to the fan base, which probably wasn't the smartest move, but it's going to be impossible for him to live up to Favre.

It's freakin' Brett Favre. What a god.

He has plenty of deserving suitors in the rest of the league.

Though it doesn't appear the Packers are in a hurry to move Favre, I think they eventually have to acquiesce to his request.

He's a living legend, and he's deserved the right to call the shots on the rest of his career. If he wants to play, let him play.
