There are plenty of good reasons for disappointed D-back fans such as myself to be excited about the playoffs starting Wednesday.

Here are a few:

1. The Yankees won’t be playing in the postseason. I’m no Yankees-hater, but it’s great to see some new faces.

2. The Tampa Bay Rays will be in the playoffs. The perennial AL East doormat finished dead last in MLB in 2007. Apparently, all they needed was new uniforms and to drop the “Devil” from their name to propel them into baseball’s elite.

3. Consider the potential World Series matchups. Dodgers-Red Sox: just think of Manny back in Boston for the World Series. How crazy would that get?

Or how about a Cubs win? A Rays win? Any NL team winning it?

Plus some of my favorite players — Evan Longoria, CC Sabathia and former Sun Devil Dustin Pedroia to name a few – will be on center stage.

No reason not to tune in.
