ASU golfers tee it up in Australia.

Five members of the ASU women’s golf team began the first round of the 2008 World Amateur Team Championships Wednesday in Adelaide, Australia, where they are competing for their home countries.

Junior Anna Nordqvist finished the day in second place overall at 3-under par (70) while her Swedish team leads the tournament by 10 shots.

Spain, which sports two Sun Devils, is currently in second place.

Senior Azahara Munoz led the Spanish team with a score of 1-under par and is tied for third place. Her teammate, freshman Carlota Ciganda who will join ASU in the spring, finished the round in 31st place with a score of 3-over par.

Freshman Giulia Molinaro, competing for Italy, is tied for 44th place at 4-over par.

Junior Juliana Murcia is competing, though for her native Colombia. She is currently in 70th place with a first round score of 6-over par.

The three-round tournament continues through Saturday.
