Phoenix Suns forward Amare Stoudemire is sporting a new look.
After receiving a cut over his eye, Stoudemire is wearing protective eyewear – and it got me thinking about some of the greatest goggle-wearers in professional basketball history.
Few have rocked the specs like Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar did.
Maybe it was his bald head that paired so well with the goggles, or perhaps it was a combination of short shorts and a smooth baby hook.
Either way, Abdul-Jabbar made the goggles look like a Hollywood fashion must-have.
While Kareem was easily the best player to ever wear the goggles, he hardly looked the goofiest.
In my mind, that distinct honor goes to then-Lakers teammate Kurt Rambis.
The man with a full head of hair and a 70’s porno ‘stache made eyeglasses sexy by attaching his reading specs to an elastic band and hitting the hardwood.
Rambis took “Revenge of the Nerds” to the basketball court and did goofy-looking white guys proud along the way.
Rambis might never get into the Hall of Fame, but in my mind he will always be an NBA fashion icon.
