Like them or not, college basketball preseason polls are out.

The Associated Press ranked ASU’s men’s squad at No. 15 in its new Top 25 poll released Friday, giving the team its first preseason poll appearance in 17 years.

It is also the University’s second-highest ranking ever in the preseason AP poll. ASU was No. 6 before the 1963-64 season.

The ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ poll also placed ASU at No. 15.

The Pac-10 media poll, announced Oct. 30, pegged the Sun Devils to finish second in the conference behind No. 4 UCLA.

In each of coach Herb Sendek’s first two years at the helm, ASU was picked to finish ninth in Pac-10.

The ASU women’s team was also ranked in the preseason AP Top 25 released Saturday, coming in at No. 17.

In an Oct. 24 survey of the Pac-10 women’s coaches, ASU was selected to finish third in the conference.

Both the men and the women start their regular seasons Nov. 14 at Wells Fargo Arena on Tempe campus. The women will host Cleveland State before the men tipoff against Mississippi Valley State.
