As the saying goes: The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

If it’s not Michael Phelps getting caught midway through a bowl after the Olympics, it’s Matt Leinart getting photographed midway through a beer bong with underage college girls.

It goes to show that no matter how legitimate of an athlete you are, there’s no such thing as getting away with murder in the world of sports.

But sometimes it’s different.

Sometimes, accusations take the place of facts, and losses become a breeding ground for excuses.

So is the case of Ultimate Fighter Georges St. Pierre and the recent “cheating with Vaseline” incident.

What began as a match that proved St. Pierre’s dedication and proper training, quickly evolved into an excuse of the most creative of sorts.

According to BJ Penn, the defeated opponent, St. Pierre’s corner man rubbed Vaseline on his body during the first two rounds.

Really?

The match I saw characterized an obviously weaker Penn, who only showed up for the first round. His performance indicated an inferior training schedule, and his technique was dwarfed in comparison to St. Pierre’s.

Last time I checked, Vaseline doesn’t affect your conditioning or stamina.
