Elway leaves football team, remains in school

Redshirt freshman quarterback Jack Elway has left the ASU football team, an athletic department spokesperson confirmed Monday.

Elway, the son of Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway, will remain at ASU to pursue his degree.

The quarterback from Cherry Creek High School in Colorado redshirted as a member of the scout team last season, and was slotted fourth on the first depth chart of spring practice released last week.

The four quarterbacks now battling to replace Rudy Carpenter are: senior Danny Sullivan, sophomores Samson Szakacsy and Chasen Stengel and true freshman Brock Osweiler.

The Sun Devils' annual spring game will be played on April 18.
