Parking & Transit announces U-Pass charges

Student U-Passes will now cost $40 per semester and $80 per academic year and will be effective July 1 to May 15, according to an ASU news release.

The U-Passes will not be valid for summer sessions until summer 2010, at which point the summer U-Pass will cost $25, University officials said in the release.

The U-Pass cost is because of the 40 percent fare increase from Valley Metro, which will be in effect July 1, according to the release.

Therefore, the U-Pass program costs increase for ASU Parking and Transit Services and the new fee is necessary.

“Parking and Transit Services is pleased that we have been able to provide this valuable service to our community members,” said PTS director Theresa Fletcher.

“We are not aware of any other university comparable in size to ASU that has been able to financially sustain a free transit pass program for their students and employees for as long as we have,” she said.
