Students now have a reliable ticket exchange marketplace in StubHub, which recently signed a partnership agreement with ASU Athletics.
“The one-on-one relationship is now going to let us connect directly to ASU season ticket holders, as well as all the ASU fans that are in attendance,” said Sean Pate, head of corporate communications for StubHub.
He said StubHub hopes to attract other students on campus as well, since StubHub is a marketplace for theater, concert and entertainment event tickets as well.
“We’re trying to expand the visibility of our service,” Pate, an ASU alumnus, said.
He said that StubHub, an online service, is reliable and similar to Ebay, except designed just for tickets.
“StubHub ensures that the tickets get to the buyer and that the payment gets to the seller,” Pate said.
He said there are partnerships with 13 collegiate athletic programs, four Pac-10 Conference schools and about 60 teams overall.
Some schools include Oregon State University, Stanford University, University of Washington and the University of Southern California.
“For ASU, it’s not some new service that people may not have heard of before,” Pate said.
He added that it seems Phoenix is a popular area for events.
“I can tell you that the Phoenix Metro area has grown increasingly popular for our site,” Pate said.
Steven Hank, associate athletic director of Marketing and Revenue Generation, said ASU Athletics used to have a sponsorship the last three years with TicketsNow.
“It provides a venue marketplace for fans to resell [unused tickets],” Hank said.
He said he believes StubHub is a reliable ticket marketplace for students to use.
“They’re the nation’s leading provider in the secondary market,” Hank said.
