MacPhee Earns National Player of the Week

The noise ASU sophomore infielder Zack MacPhee's bat made during the Sun Devils opening series against Northern Illinois last weekend apparently reverberated outside the walls of Packard Stadium.

On Monday, MacPhee earned both Pac-10 Player of the Week and Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors for his season-opening performance against the Huskies.

MacPhee was 8-for-11 (.727) in the three-game series — Sunday's scheduled fourth game was canceled due poor field conditions following overnight rain.

MacPhee pounded out extra-base hits like they were going out of style during the set, slugging 1.818 with a home run, four triples, and eight runs batted in among the damage.

MacPhee was also dangerous when he wasn't swinging the bat, drawing three walks and stealing two bases.

The honors were the first weekly awards of MacPhee's career.
