There are a lot of impressive streaks in sports.

Joe DiMaggio hit safely in 56 consecutive games. Orel Hershiser pitched 59 1/3 scoreless innings.

Byron Nelson won 11 straight PGA tournaments. Most golfers won’t win that many in a career.

But I think what the Connecticut women’s basketball team has accomplished has to be right up there with the best of them.

Not only has the program matched its own win streak with 70 straight, but all of them have come by at least 10 points and an average margin of victory has been 32.

Insane.

Sure, women’s college basketball isn’t exactly a hotbed of parity, but 70 straight wins in anything is impressive.

Of course Geno Auriemma, the Huskies’ long-time coach, only cares about winning the program’s seventh national title.

“Let’s say we win tomorrow and lost Tuesday, what are the kids going to do, go to half court and put their fingers up and say, ‘We won 71, 72?’” the coach told the Associated Press.

Well coach, it’s something I’d brag about.
