“Geek: A peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to be overly obsessed with one or more things including those of intellectuality, electronics, etc." —Wikipedia
What's the deal with geeks being so socially accepted today?
You always see the American stereotype — the guy with the horn-rimmed, broken glasses who is addicted to comic books, has an unhealthy obsession with space, overcomes a bully and goes on to work for NASA.
Where is that adversity now?
I fear we’ll never live in a time where geeks are persecuted to that extent.
Considering that creating iPhone applications is considered the absolute edge of awesome and that Bill Gates was at one time the richest man in the world, a lot of the stigma is gone.
Everybody has some passion they hold dearly and, with the advent of Internet, communities have formed around them.
People are now connected in ways never before possible, and this has given geeks the ability to network into a massive army of bloggers, content-producers and comment-posters.
In this blog I’m going to explore all kinds of geek culture from music to comic books to whatever else we can dig up across the ASU campuses.
I’m also going to be explaining Internet culture and how things like Twitter’s trending topics, page ranks and the blogosphere are affecting everybody’s life — even here at ASU.
What geek stuff do you want to see in this blog? Suggest some things for me to cover in the comments below.
Thanks,
