Smith gets sixth year of eligibility

Wide receiver Brandon Smith has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA.

Smith has struggled with injuries throughout his career, missing both the 2007 and 2009 seasons due to injury.

Smith played in 11 games during his freshman year in 2006, catching six balls for 167 yards and two touchdowns. He had a 37-yard touchdown grab in the 2006 Hawaii Bowl.

He has played in only one game since 2006, when he caught three passes for 20 yards against Oregon in 2008 on Oct. 25.

Smith was a 2005 graduate of West High School in Bakersfield, Calif.
