This is the time of year I often come to dread.

The NBA season is fading into the sunset. And soon all that will be left is baseball. While I enjoy America's pastime with great fervor, as a Diamondbacks fan I am left, well, wanting.

But this summer is different. This year, we have football. Or is it soccer?

Whatever you want to call it, the World Cup will descend upon us on June 11 with 32 countries fighting for one of the greatest titles in all the land.

Admittedly, I am not a huge soccer fan, but not because I take issue with the sport itself. So over-saturated was my youth (and I doubt I'm alone here) with the likes of basketball, baseball and football (the pigskin kind), that soccer never found a way onto my radar.

But the World Cup is more than a sport. It's full-fledged pandemonium; fan chaos at its absolute best.

Tell me you don't want to be in South Africa come a week from now going bananas with people from all over the world.

I may not be the biggest soccer enthusiast you'll find, but I know a party when I see one. Cheers!
