Comparisons go too far
(In response to Norman Shamas’s April 29 column, “Bean swastika protest at Capitol a call to action.”)
It was nothing short of eye roll-worthy to read Mr. Shamas’ column. Arizona has finally reacted to the federal government’s outright incompetence on the issue of border security, and given local police more power to actually enforce the law. Bravo to Jan Brewer for signing SB 1070 into law; Lord knows our former governor, Janet Napolitano, didn’t do anything about the problem of illegal immigration when she was in office. You have to wonder what Obama was thinking when he made her head of the Department of Homeland Security.
But that aside, Mr. Shamas is outraged that illegal immigrants are going to be arrested for being ... illegally here. That somehow, enforcing the law is Nazi-esque. This is beyond disgusting. If you “show your papers” here and you’re illegally in this country, you’ll get deported. If you “show your papers” in Nazi Germany, they put you on a train to Auschwitz and gas you. They are not even similar.
You want to protest the bill? You want to fight for its repeal and go back to doing nothing about illegal immigration? Fine. I don’t agree with you, but fine. But comparing this bill to Nazi Germany is just as ridiculous and offensive as comparing Obama or Bush to Hitler.

Living high
(In response to Ben Morin’s April 22 column, “Banning drugs limits joy.”)
What is up with ASU? Maybe its just 4/20, but there are so many articles in this paper supporting drug use and now even anarchy. I guess they were right about college.
But seriously, drugs are selfish. If you are busy getting high, what are you doing to help others and make the world better? Nothing.
You’re wasting your time and money injecting happiness into your brain instead of gaining real life long happiness by living for others.
